Sri Lanka to establish gems, jewellery lapidary in Peshawar

The News (Peshawar): Sri Lanka is to establish a gems and jewellery lapidary in the provincial capital, which would train 150 trainers in the first phase. The decision was taken during the visit of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) Chairman Ghulam Dastagir to Sri Lanka.

Ghulam Dastagir and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena discussed avenues of bilateral trade between the two countries. The objective of the meeting was strengthening of economic and commercial relations between the two countries and joint collaboration projects.

A number of joint ventures were discussed including developing of free trade zones, provision of vocational trainings, tourist exchange programs including the religious exchange and investor referral programs in areas of power generation through hydel and thermal sources.

Sri Lankan Government representatives agreed on establishing a gems and jewellery lapidary in Peshawar. The gems and jewellery lapidary would provide master training programs in the area with 150 trainers to be trained in the first phase, said a press release.
