Sri Lanka will hos the world’s largest rubber producing nations for an annual conference that will discuss the future prospects of the industry. The meeting is the General Assembly of the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC). The ANRPC comprises of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. Member countries of the association account for about 92% of the global production of natural rubber. “The proposal made by Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Plantation Industries, to host the General Assembly of the Association, its Committee Meetings and the Annual Rubber Conference in Colombo,” Cabinet spokesman and Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told media. The event will be held from 8 to 13 October 2013. ANRPC is an inter-governmental organisation established in 1970. The membership is open to the governments of countries producing natural rubber. Rubber prices are set to moderate this week as demand reduction from China prompts buyers to be cautious. The Malaysian rubber market ended lower in quiet trading following the closure of the Tokyo rubber futures for Ocean Day and the downtrend in Shanghai Futures Exchange, international media reported.
