Singapore has drawn inspiration from some of Sri Lanka’s ideas to develop the country to its present state.
Singapore Tourist Board Area Director for South Asia G.B. Srithar noted that some of the attractions in Singapore feature ideas drawn from Sri Lankan plans for the country.
He noted that the famous 101 hectare Gardens by the Bay had been designed according to an idea that was formulated for Sri Lankan botanical gardens, especially the domes. “In many ways Sri Lanka has given us and has inspired ideas for development,” Srithar said. “Gardens by the Bay is only one example.”
Cross references for city planning between the two countries is now taking place, he said, adding that the countries had great opportunity to co-create attractions for Sri Lanka as well as new features for Singapore.
“Singapore drew a lot of examples from Sri Lanka to create a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.” See also Page 16
