Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said yesterday the Government would undertake to send a list of voluntary pledges to the UN Human Rights Secretariat within two weeks, when the draft report on Sri Lanka’s Universal Periodic Review was presented and adopted at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Speaking at the conclusion of Sri Lanka’s UPR, Minister Samarasinghe congratulated the UNHCR for a ‘professional’ job during the review process.

Sri Lanka’s review panel, a troika of nations comprising India, Spain and Benin presented their report to the UN saying that Sri Lanka had accepted 110 recommendations of 210 submitted by some 99 countries that participated in the country’s review.  One hundred recommendations were rejected, the Spanish Ambassador to the UN said.
