SriLankan Airlines joins oneworld today

Creating history in South Asia’s aviation industry and in a major boost for itself, SriLankan Airlines will today formally join the prestigious oneworld alliance. Given the significance of the event, President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Chief Guest at the ceremonial entry of SriLankan Airlines to the global alliance of 14 airlines at the Mattala International Airport today. SriLankan will be the 15th carrier and first in South Asia to join oneworld, which includes Air Berlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines and TAM Airlines. oneworld is currently the holder of an unprecedented eight leading international awards for airline alliances. For its global map of over 900 destinations in 150 countries, SriLankan will be adding two new destinations for oneworld – Hambantota and Tiruchirappalli. oneworld direct members and more than 30 of their affiliated carriers serve almost 1,000 airports in 150 countries, with more than 14,000 daily departures. They carry more than 500 million passengers a year on a combined fleet of some 3,300 aircraft, offer more than 600 airport lounges and generate more than $ 140 billion annual revenues. oneworld member airlines work together to deliver consistently a superior, seamless travel experience, with special privileges and rewards for frequent flyers, including earning and redeeming miles and points across the entire alliance network. Top tier cardholders (Emerald and Sapphire) enjoy access to more than 600 airport lounges. The most regular travellers (Emerald) can also use fast track security lanes at select airports and extra baggage allowances.
