The Commercial hub of the island, Colombo has recently drawn a great deal of positive attention from Standard Chartered.

The bank’s regional teams, impressed with Sri Lanka’s recent economic progress and development in business, have recognised the city as an ideal venue to host global conferences. In the next few months the local branch office is delighted to welcome representatives from its global and regional leadership, as they visit the country to attend meetings and conferences.

This week, Standard Chartered Sri Lanka is honoured to host the South Asia Regional Executive Committee to convene their strategy meeting in one of the city’s most prestigious hotels. The meeting will be attended by the bank’s regional leadership representing key areas of business and operations. Meetings such as these will not only highlight the island as a desirable business destination but also afford the local leadership the opportunity to interact and share expertise with eminent banking personalities such as Standard Chartered Group Head, Wholesale Banking Geographies and a Managing Director Alex Manson.

Standard Chartered CEO Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar commented, “Colombo is a truly fascinating city with its eastern character tinged with western influence, and we are privileged to provide access to some of what it has to offer to our global leadership. We also look forward to hosting many more of our global and regional events here and thereby bringing even further exposure and eminence to this great place we call home.”

In the coming months Colombo will also play host to Standard Chartered’s Global Consumer Banking as well as the regional finance teams who have picked the city as their venue of choice to conduct their conferences. The spotlight could not have shone on the city at a better time: The local economy is in good shape and the country is currently hosting an international event of its favourite national pastime – the ICC T20 World Cup 2012.
