Standard Chartered recently signed with the Commonwealth Business Council to come on board as a principal sponsor of the Commonwealth Business Forum Colombo 2013, which will precede the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November this year, in Sri Lanka.
The Forum, on the theme ‘Partnering for Wealth Creation and Social Development: The Commonwealth, Indian Ocean, Pacific and SAARC,’ will focus on the potential for partnership centred around one of the fastest growing regions of the world – the Indian Ocean Rim. Among the international business leaders addressing the Forum is Sir Thomas Harris, Vice Chairman, Standard Chartered, UK.
Standard Chartered Chief Executive Officer Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar commenting on the association said: “We have been a part of this nation’s business and economic enterprise for over a 150 years and this sponsorship of this prestigious forum allows us a unique opportunity to reiterate our presence and commitment to Sri Lanka.
We look forward to facilitating the showcasing of Sri Lankan capability and expertise and we are certain that the Forum will shed a new light on what the country has to offer, internationally.”
The Commonwealth Business Forum will take place over three days – 12, 13 and 14 November – in Colombo, and provide an invaluable opportunity for high level dialogue on trade and investment between business and government leaders, as the premier business event in the Commonwealth bringing together heads of government, ministers and top business leaders from around the world. The Forum will be attended by over 1,000 delegates.
This major global business event takes place against a backdrop of attempts to recover from recession, address the challenges of maintaining open markets and when emerging markets are demonstrating their potential as major players on the world stage.
The Forum is co-organised by the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) and the Government of Sri Lanka and is a part of the overall CHOGM program. It will be opened by the President of Sri Lanka and be addressed by Commonwealth Heads of Government.
This will be a key event in developing stronger partnerships between governments and business and in ensuring that the Commonwealth remains relevant and participates in promoting sustainable growth to the benefit of the global economy.
