Standard Chartered’s Real Estate Global Head in town

Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Real Estate Mark Ebbinghaus is in Sri Lanka today meeting the local team and some key clients. The arrival of another business head to the country is a reflection of the increased importance of Sri Lanka to Standard Chartered Bank. Ebbinghaus is a real estate specialist with more than 27 years of experience in sector of which more than 17 years have been in equities research and investment banking. Commenting on his visit to Sri Lanka, Ebbinghaus said: “Sri Lanka is an attractive growth market and the real estate banking and capital market opportunities are on the increase. The high quality tourism and hospitality industry is currently leading the way in the real estate sector. As the market develops core real estate product in the development pipeline will emerge pointing to a bright future for the Sri Lankan real estate market.” Mak has been an advisor to a number of both high profile and substantial global real estate investors and particularly in relation to the Asia-Pacific region. Prior to investment banking Mark has been a No. 1 rated equities research analyst covering real estate, developers and contractors, and the hotel sector. Mark has tremendous experience in the real estate and the capital markets space and I am sure he will be very impressed by what he sees and hears from our clients during his visit.” Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Ebbinghaus was the Asia Head of Real Estate Lodging & Leisure investment banking for UBS, spearheading the establishment and development of the real estate investment banking franchise. Before his time at UBS, Ebbinghaus spent five years at JLW Advisory (a former division of Jones Lang LaSalle) where he was Head of Strategic Investment Advice for their Australian business. In this role Ebbinghaus was responsible for asset allocation, strategic investment and divestment advice and asset management for a number of leading direct real estate investors and pension plans. He holds an Economics undergraduate degree (accounting and finance major) from the University of Adelaide and a Masters degree (real estate and finance major) from the University of South Australia. Mark also holds post-graduate qualifications from the Financial Services Institute of Australia and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). Mark is a fellow of FINSIA and is a full member of both AIMR and the Australian Property Institute. He also holds a Real Estate Agents and Business License as well as being a former registered valuer in the state of NSW, Australia.
