Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) has announced that when the appeal and the two Fundamental Rights applications filed by CTC and the Distributors Association regarding the regulations for pictorial health warnings covering cigarette packs were taken up before the Supreme Court, the hearing was rescheduled for 11 July.
An undertaking was given to the Supreme Court on behalf of the Minister of Health that the regulations would not be implemented until 14 July. In this view, CTC will continue to produce and supply cigarettes to the market in its current packaging until a further direction is made by the Supreme Court on 11 July.
CTC in its filing to the CSE said as a responsible corporate citizen, it always supported balance regulations and conducted all its business activities in compliance with all existing laws and regulations.
