Students fare better at 2012 O/Ls

Students have performed better in the 2012 G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination, the Government said yesterday, following a thorough review. The Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday at their meeting noted the information on achievements at National, Provincial, District and Zonal levels, based on the results of the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination 2012, submitted by Minister of Education Bandula Gunawardena. According to the analysis, 64.74% of the students who sat for the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination 2012 have qualified to study for the G.C.E. (A/L). This is an increase of 15.04% from 2005 to 2012. The percentage of students who have failed in all the subjects, which was 8.02% in 2005, has decreased to 4.13% in 2012. The percentage of students qualified in 2012 to follow A/L classes in the Eastern, Northern and Uva Provinces has increased by 5.8%, 5.73% and 5.81% respectively, when compared with that of 2011.
