The capital market is  agog with speculation as to who the likely successor as the new Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), following the pre-announced resignation of Tilak Karunaratne.

The most popular speculation was top professional and Tourism Development Authority Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa, whilst among others were former SEC Chief Dr. Gamini Wickramasinghe, who is currently Head of BOC, and top fund manager Asanga Seneviratne. The name of National Gem and Jewellery Authority Chairman Prasad Galhena was another, though some said he may be made the Director General.

All have denied any knowledge of them being considered.
