Sujeewa’s nomination to SEC dropped?

Speculation was rife that nomination of Sujeewa Mudalige as a Commissioner of SEC has been dropped suggesting yet another vacancy exist.

As exclusively reported by Daily FT yesterday, the choice of Mudalige was a surprise as he was not in the original speculated list. But he was among those announced as new Commissioners.

Other was ex-Central Banker Priyantha Fernando apart from Chairman Dr. Nalaka Godahewa. The other speculated name was lawyer Kalinga Indatissa. Daily FT learns only Mudalige’s nomination has faced a snag. He served as a SEC Commissioner previously in an Ex-Officio capacity when he was the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Finance Ministry officials weren’t available for comment at the time of this edition went to print.
