Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Committees Thilanga Sumathipala yesterday proposed that Minister Ravi Karunanayake should resign to protect the reputation and honour of the Government at a crucial hour.
Meeting journalists yesterday in Parliament to explain the interim report of the oversight committee on sustainable development, the Deputy Speaker emphasised that advising Minister Karunanayake to resign was his private opinion.
“I am making this remark not as the Deputy Speaker but as a member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. The Government would be embarrassed if Minister Karunanayake continues to hold his position,” he stressed. (AH)
