The Government has received Cabinet approval to enter into an agreement with the Basel Institute on Governance in Switzerland to consult with the institute on corruption and financial crimes.

The Basel Institute on Governance is an independent not-for-profit competence centre working globally with the public and private sectors to counter corruption and other financial crimes and to improve the quality of governance.

The agreement will be signed as the country has requested the support of Switzerland on financial and corruption crimes. The Basel Institute will assist in judicial affairs taking place outside Sri Lankan jurisdiction.

A proposal made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera to sign the agreement was approved by the Cabinet.
