The Ministry of Power disclosed yesterday that the observance of Earth Hour countrywide on Saturday had saved 130 MW of electricity.
Earth Hour is celebrated globally and in Sri Lanka an appeal to public was made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to switch off or reduce electricity anytime between 6:30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m. The public and private sector joined in the observance. “With the commitment of the general public, electricity can be saved and the achievement via the observance of Earth Hour is a good example,” Power Minister Champika Ranawaka said yesterday.
