Tally of listed firms tops 260; 21 added so far this year

THE number of listed companies in the country topped the 260 mark last week with the addition of two whilst tomorrow Softlogic Holdings will debut.

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) finished 2010 with a tally of 241 and as of last week the number of listed companies was 261 reflecting an increase of 20. Lanka Orix Finance Company and Vallibel One Ltd., were the debutants last week and with tomorrow’s entry of Softlogic the total number will be 262 and total addition so far this year will be 21.

Year to date the CSE’s benchmark All Share Index has gained by 4.16% whilst Milanka Index has dipped by 9.55%. The market capitalisation last week amounted to Rs. 2.429 trillion, up from Rs. 2.21 trillion as at 31 December, 2010. The market’s price earning ration at present is 23.54 times, as against 25.16 times end of 2010.
