The Prime Minister of Thailand Yingluck Shinawatra will begin her three-day visit to Sri Lanka on Friday (31 May).
As part of her official visit, Yingluck will address the Sri Lankan Parliament today. In her address to Parliament, the Thai PM is expected to speak about the 57-year-long diplomatic relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka.
During her visit, to strengthen relations between the two countries, Thailand and Sri Lanka will sign four agreements on cooperation on tourism and science and technology and on a visa waiver for officials and diplomatic passport holders.
An agreement on the sister cities partnership between Kandy in Sri Lanka and Ayutthaya in Thailand will also be signed during Yingluck’s visit.
According to the Thai Ambassador to Colombo Poldej Worachat, the Thai PM would be accompanied by a group of businessmen who are keen to explore investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. The Thai delegation is interested in promote cooperation among private businesses in the agricultural and fishery industries.
The Thai Prime Minister is expected to participate in the activities to mark the 260th anniversary of the establishment of the Siam Nikaya Upasampada in Kandy.
Yingluck will visit the Maldives following her trip to Sri Lanka.
