The Kingsbury, the luxurious new five-star hotel, welcomed its first guest Jorhen Storm from Denmark yesterday with a colourful ceremony.

He was accorded a traditional Sri Lankan welcome and was received by Hayleys Chairman Mohan Pandithage and The Kingsbury CEO Otto M. Stohl.

“Very honoured to be the first guest,” a pleasantly surprised Storm wrote in The Kingsbury guest book yesterday. On a business trip, he is the Production Manager at Sakata Ornamentals Europe.

To recognise this momentous occasion, Storm was hosted to morning refreshments and a lavish lunch at the World Cuisine Restaurant by the great Indian Ocean.

Chairman Pandithage proudly announced yesterday that “The Kingsbury has indeed brought back good old fashioned hospitality”.

“We take immense pride in promising you an exceptional experience at The Kingsbury; a personalised, respectful one with individual attention and the deepest concern for your singular preferences,” CEO Stohl told journalists yesterday.

The Kingsbury features 229 rooms and suites (each one faces the sea) including The Kingsbury Suite and the Executive floor with 24 hour butler service, seven food and beverage options and meeting and banqueting facilities.

This regal edifice is positioned to be the best luxury hospitality offering in Colombo, where each guest is made to feel like royalty. Personalised service, grace and elegance is what a guest can look forward to in a day and age where busy lifestyles and hectic work schedules have become the way of life. It is in this context that The Kingsbury will be a refreshing change to those discerning guests who long for traditional hospitality as in the good old days.

Though The Kingsbury is still partially under construction with its pool, pool side bar, sky lounge, and the Chinese restaurant, as of now it can treat you to some of the best sea food at ‘The Ocean,’ a trip around the world at the multi cuisine restaurant, or enjoy the most romantic setting in alfresco dinning by the sea, or sit back and relax with the finest beverages and signature cocktails at ‘The Kings’ bar.
