The Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) 3rd Preparatory Committee on the Arms Trade Treaty will be held at the United Nations (UN) Head Quarters in New York from 11-15 July 2011.
The purpose of the PrepCom is to make recommendation on the elements that would be needed to attain an effective and balanced legally binding instrument on the highest possible common international standards for the transfer of conventional arms.
UPFA MP Thilanga Sumathipala will represent the Government of Sri Lanka and deliver an address titled ‘Legislators and the Arms Trade Treaty: A Vital Role’ on 12 July.
PGA Acting President Dr. Ruth Wijdenbosch MP (Suriname) and PGA Secretary-General Shazia Z. Rafi will also address the gathering.
