Those who condemn other religions and speak against other faiths are only bringing disgrace to their own religion, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said, while pointing out that extremists bring no justice to any religion.
“People who follow their religion properly should be fair and justifiable to others,” the President said, adding that this was the teaching of every religion.
The President made these observations while attending the rededication ceremony of the Galle Fort Methodist Church yesterday.
The renovation of the Church was carried out by the Sri Lanka Navy as a goodwill gesture on the instructions of President Rajapaksa.
The renovation and rededication of the church is a fulfilment of a national duty, the President said. “This is a good opportunity to showcase the religious harmony that prevails in Sri Lanka,” he added.
The President thanked everyone who contributed in renovation efforts irrespective of their religious differences and emphasised that this would be a good lesson for those who attempt to create rifts between religions.
