Senior banker Tissa Nanayakkara has been appointed as the new Deputy Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director of Lanka Hospitals Plc with effect from 27 March. Tissa is the Senior Deputy General Manager - Retail Banking at Seylan Bank. He has over 35 years experience covering a wide range of roles at several financial institutions including two foreign banks. He has also served as the Assistant to the Consular General for the Republic of Cyprus in Sri Lanka. Tissa’s entry comes hot on the heels of a slew of appointments to the Lanka Hospitals Board following the change of Government. Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation owns 56% stake in the popular healthcare company. His appointment is speculated to have been as a nominee of Sri Lanka Insurance. Last month Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake appointed Dr. Sarath Paranavitane, a highly-qualified management expert and a specialist doctor, as Chairman of Lanka Hospitals Plc. This was followed by the appointment of Dr. Rohan L. Wijesundera, Damien Fernando, Prof. Dilani Lokuhetty, Prof. Serosha Mandika Wijeyaratne, Dr. Harsha Hemal Gunasekara and Prof. Asita de Silva as Directors in March.
