To appeal sentence, wife vows to continue struggle

The Counsel who appeared for Sri Lanka’s former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka in the ill-famous ‘White Flag’ case, Nalin Ladduwahetty said an appeal would be filed on Monday in Court of Appeal against yesterday’s verdict of the trial.

The three-member trial at-bar of Colombo High Court delivered a split verdict and Justices Deepali Wijesundera and A.Z. Razeen found the defendant guilty of the first charge while Justice W.M.T.B. Warawewa dissented.

Fonseka was sentenced for a three-year rigorous imprisonment.

Wife of the former Army Commander, Anoma Fonseka meanwhile said she was prepared for the verdict delivered this morning.

Anoma, speaking to the media after the ourt delivered the verdict, said she would continue to campaign against the Government.

She said that the verdict on the case would not be a setback to the campaign against lawlessness in the country and called on all Sri Lankans to unite and come forward to join the campaign.

Anoma added that her husband did not deserve to be treated in such a manner after spearheading the victory over the LTTE and ending the three-decade-long war.
