Treasury allocates Rs. 534 m for ‘Pura Neguma’

A sum of Rs. 534 million has been allocated for the ‘Pura Neguma’ development project in 2012, according to the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

The purpose of ‘Pura Neguma’ is to improve small urban areas in selected local Government bodies.

The Government has already identified 108 small townships located within local authorities in the Western, North Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North Western Provinces.

Under this project, the Government has decided to develop small townships included the provincial councils that were not covered under the Local Government Infrastructure Improvement Project.

Through this project, a maximum of Rs. 50 million will be allocated to each local body. The project unit under the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils will implement the development activities of ‘Pura Neguma’ to provide urban economic facilities to the rural community.

‘Pura Neguma’ will improve water supply and sanitation facilities, access to roads, maternity and health centres, libraries and play grounds in small townships.
