The Finance Ministry has released Rs. 3.945 billion to the Golden Key Credit Card Company Ltd (GKCCCL), in order to settle 2,700 Security Deposit Holders (SDHs) worth between Rs.2 million and Rs.10 million.
With the completion of the Rs.2 million to Rs.10 million range, approximately 95% of the total SDH’s would have received 41% of their deposits through the repayment plan.
Issuing a statement GKCCCL Chief Executive Officer Dinesh Perera said the payments are being made to the depositors by way of Accounts Payee cheques drawn in the SDH’s name and sent via registered post to their respective addresses.
The company has already settled payments to 1,030 deposit holders in the range of Rs.2 million to Rs.3 million. However, a few cheques have been held back by the auditors due to data mismatches, and the company assured that these would be cleared soon by obtaining the necessary documentation from such SDH’s.
GKCCCL also stated that they were in the process of releasing the cheques to 552 SDH’s in the next range of Rs.3 million to Rs.4 million.
“The cheques have already been given to the auditors for clearance and posting of cheques to this category would be completed soon upon the receipt of the audit clearances,” the statement said.
As the company is nearing to pay the high value category, the audit processes have been strengthened to ensure zero tolerance in errors.
Noting that SDH’s who received the payments had thanked all parties concerned including the Government and the Central Bank on their bold move to provide relief to the aggrieved depositors, they also added that those who had received payments have already begun to deposit them to their bank accounts immediately.
