Two MSD policemen arrested for sexually abusing Russian tourist

The Mount Lavinia police have arrested two Police Constables attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) for sexually abusing a Russian woman at the Mount Lavinia Beach on Saturday evening.

Police officers on patrol duty at the Mount Lavinia Beach with the assistance of lifeguards arrested the two suspects after they received information that the woman was sexually abused, while she was bathing at the beach.

The suspects have obstructed the police officers and attempted to escape when the officers tried to arrest them, the police said. The two suspects, aged 27 and 47 have been identified as a police constable and a police driver attached to the Ministerial Security Division.

They are residents of residents of Mirihana and Kantale.

The suspects were produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court on Sunday and one was remanded till 9 February and the other granted bail.
