Two PCs to be dissolved on Friday?

The Government will move to dissolve the Central and North Western Provincial Councils next Friday (20) for polls scheduled in the two provinces for early September, Media Minister and Kandy District MP Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.

Rambukwella, who was addressing a media briefing in Kandy yesterday, said that the relevant documentation had already been sent to Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa who will declare the dissolution.

The Government that has committed to holding elections for the Northern Provincial Council was expected to declare elections for all three provinces on the same polling date in September. However, the Government will likely defer the decision on the northern poll until after it attempts to pass legislation in Parliament revising the 13th Amendment.
