The United National Party (UNP) said that some of the Opposition members had made trips to Singapore for medical reasons and there was no conspiracy involved as alleged by the Government. UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera said that all the discussions with regards to the common opposition took place in Sri Lanka and at times in the Parliament premises and not Singapore. The Government had recently said that there was suspicion over several trips undertaken by members of the common opposition to Singapore. “We have no need to go overseas to have talks. We used our democratic right to meet in Sri Lanka and discuss our plans,” Samaraweera said.
