Deputy Investment Promotion Minister Faiszer Mustapha also responding to UNP action claimed that unfortunately the Opposition party’s statement lacked any legal validity or any rational sense. “One would be liable in law for running a casino if one does not have the required regulatory approval before commencing the same. Thus it is unfortunate that a statement of this nature should be issued at a time Sri Lanka is hosting the Commonwealth Business Summit,” Faiszer said. “I would like to remind Dr. Harsha De Silva and other members of the Opposition who made this complaint, that we should act responsibly at a time Sri Lanka as a nation is trying to woo foreign investment by holding this Commonwealth Business Forum,” he added. “All Sri Lankans, at a time when the Business Forum is held and when Packer has been invited as a delegate to this Forum, should act responsibly to encourage investment and not to discredit Sri Lanka to achieve petty political goals. I call upon Dr. Harsha De Silva and the others who made this complaint to act with a sense of responsibility and patriotism in the interest of all Sri Lankans,” Faiszer added.
