For the first time in Sri Lanka, all citizens of the country have now been afforded an opportunity to suggest ideas to be considered for implementation through the Manifesto of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).
The promoters in a statement said all Sri Lankans are encouraged to log on to www.upfa2015manifesto.com or www.fb.com/upfa2015manifesto on Facebook and share their valuable and innovative ideas.
The top five innovative ideas from such submissions will be considered for implementation in the UPFA 2015 action plan.
The website and Facebook page not only features a comprehensive look at all facets of the manifesto but also is built towards maximum engagement with the public. The website allows the public to vote for their favourite action items as well as provide feedback.
Speaking about this novel concept, Samanmalee Sakalsuriya, Provincial Councillor – Western Province said: “The special feature of getting fresh new ideas from the public for consideration is an aspect that is targeted towards getting the youth of this country positively involved in a productive exercise as opposed to the current mudslinging and wasteful initiatives.”
The strategically thought out UPFA Manifesto ‘A Guarantee for the Future,’ covers three aspirations – the establishment of a noble nation, creation of a modern and prosperous state and the development of a unified country enveloped in racial and religious harmony.
To bring to life these aspirations the UPFA has presented a 12-fold policy statement, prepared after gaining an understanding of the wishes and aspirations of all Sri Lankans. This was done using information and data gathered from surveys conducted for the purpose, and completed with the participation of academics, professionals and intellectuals and is a policy document which can be implemented practically.
The UPFA which has endeavoured to always respect the thoughts and wishes of the people and the principles of democracy, hope to encourage the people’s participation in the task of adding innovative new ideas to the Manifesto in a collaborative and inclusive endeavour.
