Vidullanka PLC has successfully completed the construction of 2.5 MW Madugeta Mini Hydropower Plant in Neluwa and the plant was connected to the grid on Friday.
The Madugeta Mini Hydro Power Plant is owned by Vidul Madugeta Ltd., which is a joint venture between Vidullanka PLC and Esna Power Ltd.
It is the first low head-high flow run of the river mini hydropower project of the company and is expected to generate approximately 10.2 GWh for the national grid.
With the commissioning of the latest plant, Vidullanka Group’s total power generation capacity has been expanded to over 10 MW.
Incorporated in 1997 as a BOI venture, Vidullanka PLC operates with seven mini hydropower projects delivering environmental friendly electricity to the national grid.
In 2012/13, Vidullanka marked another successful year with a profit after tax of Rs. 109.6 million and the commissioning of two mini hydropower projects.
The group delivered 27.8 GWh of environmentally-friendly energy at a cost lesser than its average unit cost of electricity to the Ceylon Electricity Board.
The company is also in the process of constructing a 4 MW mini hydropower plant in Kotmale, Nuwara Eliya. The project is expected to deliver 13.7 GWh of energy to the national grid and is expected to be commissioned during the financial year 2013/14.
