Voters can now check whether they are on the voters’ list for the upcoming Provincial Council Election by calling the Government Information Centre (GIC) on 1919. The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) says that accordingly anyone could find out whether their names are on the registered voters’ list to enable them to vote at the upcoming Western and Southern Provincial Council Election. Postal voters have found the Government Information Centre (1919) particularly useful in ascertaining the basic information necessary for completing their postal voting application form. ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura said that the number of staff at the GIC has been increased in order to provide the required voter information. “Nearly 1000 persons a day call the GIC to find out information connected with their name on the voters’ list,” he said. Accordingly by calling the Government Information Centre (1919) and stating the relevant district, national identity card number and full name, voters could know the relevant polling division number and registration number appearing on the voters’ list. The ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) and the Election Department have jointly implemented this facility through the Government Information Centre (1919). This information service about voters’ lists as well as all government services is available in Sinhala, Tamil and English from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. all the days of the year and even on public holidays.
