Within two days of launching the Divi Neguma Sahana Aruna program, 50,132 beneficiaries obtained credit facilities worth Rs. 740 million from Divi Neguma Community Banks throughout the country.
The program was ceremonially launched on 1 September.
The Economic Development Ministry said such a large number of people joining the program was the result of beneficiaries being able to obtain on-the-spot loans up to a maximum of Rs. 50,000 without any guarantors, age limits, collateral or age limit.
The credit facilities were given for improving projects in the areas of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and cottage industries. Over one million people are expected to benefit from the program during the course of this month through loans given by 1,073 community banks in 327 secretarial divisions.
