Ne fresh date given, around 50 Royal Golf Club members had agreed to attend the US$ 1000 per head event

Golfing star Tiger Woods’ much anticipated visit to Sri Lanka has been postponed. He was initially expected in the island on Tuesday but the short sojourn has been postponed indefinitely, sources said.

Sources from The Royal Colombo Golf Club yesterday told the Daily FT that the tour was handled by the government and that the club was only asked to round up several golfers for a luncheon to be held at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel where Woods was to make an appearance.

Sources said that no proper date had been mentioned by the Government following the scheduled visit for early this week being postponed.

“We were asked to see how many golfers were willing to attend the luncheon. However no ticket was given to hand for this,” sources said. Tickets for the luncheon is said to have been priced at USD 1000. Almost 50 local golfers attached to the club had given the thumbs up for attending the event.

Furthermore sources said that the government has told them that Woods will visit the Club and spend three hours in the golf course. The reason for the postponement of the visit is unknown. Woods is the highest paid professional athlete in the world and is said to have earned an estimated USD 90.5 million from winnings and endorsements in 2010.
