Worker remittances a record $ 6.8 b in 2013

Central Bank said yesterday worker remittances recorded the highest-ever monthly figure in December as they grew by 25% to $ 636 million. Total cumulative inflows of workers’ remittances during 2013 grew by 13% to $6.8 billion from $6.0 billion in 2012. Earnings from tourism increased by 35% to record a total earnings from tourism of $1.4 billion compared to $1 billion recorded in 2012, exceeding the initial estimates for the year.
