The 2012 edition of the internationally-famous Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) will begin on Tuesday in Liverpool, UK, making it the first time a European city is hosting the world’s largest gathering of start-up champions from around the world.
Organised by the US-based Kauffman Foundation and hosted by Liverpool Vision, the event will be held at the ECHO Arena and BT Convention Centre until 16 March. The ceremonial opening was held on Monday night whilst on Tuesday the formal sessions of the Congress will start with world-renowned entrepreneurs Virgin tycoon Sir Richard Branson, former Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy and founder of Lastminute.com, Martha Lane Fox as speakers among others.
The Global Entrepreneurship Congress is an inspirational gathering of entrepreneurs, thought-leaders, economists and policy-makers from more than 100 countries and anyone of any age or background who ever had a dream of running their own business.
More than 2,000 delegates will attend over a week of events, ranging from grassroots initiatives to discussions with chief executives and business leaders. It’s all aimed at celebrating entrepreneurial potential and learning from those who have already achieved success.
The Sri Lankan affiliate of Kauffman Foundation is Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka founded by veteran business leader Patrick Amarasingha. YESL carries out economic and entrepreneurship education to around 10,000 school students and 2,000 university students via the world famous US-founded Junior Achiever style program.
Organisers said the Global Entrepreneurship Congress 2012 will provide a festival for business where people, passion and potential will be celebrated, inspired and accelerated.
The Congress will celebrate enterprise and inspire those with the ‘can-do’ spirit to turn their dreams into an ambitious reality. It will be a powerhouse of business brilliance that inspires people, excites potential and celebrates passion with the aim of “unleashing the will to win”.
Over the next few days entrepreneurs and aspiring business leaders will experience an inspiring journey through sessions of speeches, panel discussions and debates centred on three themes that explore the concept of winning in business: Who Dares Wins – a celebration of the best in the business; Who Cares Wins – nurturing talent to unleash ideas and Who Shares Wins – inspiration to accelerate your business.
