The Young Entrepreneur Sri Lanka (YESL) is urging for public and private sector to promote Sri Lanka at the upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in March.

The Global Entrepren-eurship Congress (GEC) has evolved in recent years to become one of the most highly anticipated annual gatherings of entrepreneurship champions from around the world—connecting people across borders and sectors to unleash ideas that drive economic growth and improve lives. It has also become established as GEW Host “annual meeting” enabling them to learn from colleagues facing similar challenges in staging state-of-the-art entrepreneurship campaigns.

The 2013 Global Entrepr-eneurship Congress to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from March 18 - 21.

The GEC was last held in Liverpool in 2012 whilst prior to that in Shanghai in 2011. Last year’s event drew over 3,500 entrepreneurs, policymakers, academics and others.

Given the high caliber participation and global spotlight, YESL Founder and President Patrick Amarasinghe said GEC 2013 in Rio will be an ideal platform for public and private sector to promote post-war Sri Lanka. He said Sri Lanka can consider promoting several of its hub strategies as well as opportunities for entrepreneurship in knowledge economy, tourism apart from luring foreign investors.

In Rio, the GEC will progress to a new chapter as it focuses on the leaders building the best entrepreneurial ecosystems in a wide array of economies.

GEC is also encouraging individual member nations to bring in country delegation for Rio event. In Liverpool last year, delegations included entrepreneurs, government leaders, reporters, accelerators and others from local startup communities.

The Congress will once more take the form of a festival of dozens of entrepreneurship events spread throughout the host city. Conducted by leading practitioners and entrepreneurial support organizations, the official fringe events provide educational and networking opportunities for those developing advanced entrepreneurial ecosystems across the globe. They also provide international participants with a unique window into successful Brazilian models with potential for being replicated.

Events include Global Startup Policy Forum.
