The restoration process of the Delikadeli Tank under Sampath Bank’s ‘Wewata Jeewayak’ program recently commenced in Dambana, Mahiyangana.
The tank which was built in 1979 acts as a main supply for 104 acres of paddy fields in the area providing for more than 90 families. The reconstruction of the tank was of utmost importance for the livelihoods of the indigenous community and farmers.
The Wewata Jeewayak program, which was initiated more than 20 years ago, focuses on aiding all local, farming, and indigenous communities. This project aims to restore livelihoods and protect the values and beliefs of all Sri Lankans, in line with Sampath Bank’s newest campaign, ‘Pohosath Minissu’. Furthermore, with the aim of improving schoolchildren’s understanding of the environment, the bank took another step in reviving the ecosystem with the ‘Gasai Mamai – Pubudu Pothai’ program to inculcate the traditional values of cultivation in the younger generation, whilst heightening environmental consciousness.
