Bhutan’s Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay was hosted to a state banquet by his Sri Lankan counterpart Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Waters Edge Hotel yesterday.
The event was put together by Waters Edge Director Sales and Marketing Thilanka Muthukumarana and his team. A traditional meal designed and prepared by Executive Chef Buddhika Samarasekera, comprising peppered tender smoked seer on a cartwheel of roasted pineapple with red rice crisps, coconut crumbed Negombo lagoon prawn with sweet chilli and crab cocktail accompanied by aubergine moju as appetizers, was served.
To entice the visiting Prime Minister with true Sri Lankan cuisine, main course dishes such as Arugam Bay baby lobster thermidor tinged with lemongrass and spiced with green chilli, lamb black curry, cottage cheese in baby capsicum, tempered cashew and a timbale of yellow suwandel rice were prepared.
An array of Sri Lankan desserts such as steamed jaggery pudding flavoured with lemon rind and roasted cashew nuts, tropical fresh fruits with coconut macaroons and chocolate sauce and pumpkin and ginger crumble with grand marnier sauce were served as a final element to the meal.
The intimate gathering was held at ‘The View’ in the presence of several Parliamentarians and senior officials in addition to the two premiers.
