The inaugural session of the ‘Galle Dialogue 2013’ maritime conference under the theme ‘Emerging Maritime Trends in the Indian Ocean’ was held in the port city of Galle yesterday and will continue today (26) with its final sessions.
Organised by the Sri Lanka Navy and attended by 86 foreign delegates from 35 countries along with 90 local delegates, the aim of the conference is to create a forum to discuss and exchange matters of regional maritime concern. Chief Guest Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa delivered the key note address at the conference at this, the fourth such conference to be held –
