In an unprecedented spirit of energy and commitment, over 2,500 employees of HNB walked the full length of 670 kms, at different stages, hand-in-hand with Trail 2016 (an initiative of the Colours of Courage Trust) towards their goal of raising USD 5 million for the cancer unit at Karapitiya hospital.

Team HNB went beyond the call of duty throughout Trail’s journey. The Bank’s 22 branches along the route took on a festive air with banners and colourful decorations. Branch staff served refreshments, fruit and beverages and provided support to the Trail brigade. En-route, HNB’s mobile Point of Sale solution, the MoMo machines were deployed for donations. All 475 ATM’s island-wide were attuned to accept donations for Trail. The Bank’s iconic mascot, the pink Jumbo till traversed the entire distance on a float with bystanders dropping their contribution in to it. Of particular significance and emotion was when HNB’s Northern Regional Head and the branch managers of the Northern Region, in a symbolic move, were at the Southern tip of Dondra Head at the culmination of the walk, corroborating their solidarity and demonstrating the moral support of the entire staff.

As a Gold Sponsor, HNB went the extra mile to ensure technical enhancements and optimized banking platforms to facilitate donor payments and on-line transactions, particularly on the Trail website on which the payment gateway was fully powered by HNB. Till collections along the walk were managed by the Bank’s branch staff who at the end of each day would deposit the collections into the Trail account.  The HNB powered internet payment gateway on Trail’s website generated approximately Rs 107 Mn through donors who used the debit/credit and payment options, while the MoMo POS machines provided by HNB mobilized up to Rs. 410,000. HNB branches along the Trail route collected a staggering Rs. 6.8 Mn, all in a spirit of togetherness, unanimous in their commitment that every Rupee and Dollar deposited at HNB for Trail, is towards the Cancer Unit at Karapitiya hospital.

The Bank’s total contribution to the cause taking into consideration sponsorship money, staff time, media support and activation at branch level was well over Rs. 12 Mn.

HNB’s partnership with Trail 2016 continues through acceptance of online credit and debit card payments. Contributions can be made through any HNB branch by crediting the “Colours of Courage Trust (Guarantee) Ltd” Account No. 003010491671 or through any of HNB’s four hundred plus ATM’s, island-wide.
