Sri Lanka’s 69th Independence Day celebrations were held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Galle Face Green in Colombo on 4 February.
In his address, the President called on all sections of society to work with determination and commitment to secure economic freedom by achieving the goals of sustainable development and poverty alleviation.
Those present at the ceremony included several distinguished invitees such as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Ministers, Provincial Governors, the Chief Justice, Chief Ministers, foreign envoys including Ambassadors and High Commissioners, the Leader of the Opposition, Parliamentarians, Cabinet Secretaries of Ministries, CDS and Tri-Forces Commanders, the IGP, State officials and religious dignitaries
