Remembrance Day celebrations

The sixth Remembrance Day celebration to commemorate the end of the war was held yesterday in Matara, with President Maithripala Sirisena leading proceedings. 

The event saw parades by the Army, Air Force, Navy, Police and Civil Defence Force. 

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, Field Marshall Sarath Fonseka, Secretary P.B. Abeykoon, State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene and Defence Secretary B.M.U.D. Basnayake were among the top officials present at the event – Pix by Samantha Perera and Presidential Media Unit
