The Volkswagen Beetle Owners’ Club was formed in 1997 by a group of enthusiasts who put together a team of “like-minded” owners with the intention of keeping the machine “up and running” for many years to come. The Club grew from strength to strength while the membership has exceeded over two hundred and fifty and the number continues to grow. This year, the Club has dedicated all its activities under the banner “Diamond Jubilee” as it was sixty years ago that the first consignments of VW Beetles were imported to the country which began the long term association with the brand that has carried on “defiantly” to-date. The World Volkswagen Day Celebration was held on the 7th of July 2013. The Annual Parade took off from the North Lawn at Taj Samudra Colombo at 3.00 pm and proceeded towards the south of Galle road to the final destination. This year’s World Volkswagen Day Celebrations commenced with the flag off carried out by Dr. Juergen Morhard the German Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Area Director ( Sri Lanka) and General Manager of Taj Samudra Colombo Rohit Khosla and Reeza Rauf Director Sales & Marketing at Volkswagen.
