Jehan Aloysius and his team at CentreStage Productions are preparing for their popular Summer Workshop for Kids on 17 and 18 August as their usual space on Colombo 3.
Registrations for this unique workshop is now open, though there are just a few places available, despite being promoted only on social media. Children between the ages of nine and 14 years are eligible to apply by sending their names and age by text to their hotline below. The exciting lineup of workshop activities are theatre based, using theatre techniques and activities to encourage creative expression and performance skills. Jehan infuses the workshops with unique elements and themes so the participants would be constantly engaged and inspired. African musical instruments, chanting, movements and costume play are just some of the elements used in past workshops. The workshop participants create, direct and perform mini-presentations as well. Creative use of masks, making costumes and group activities are also explored at some workshops.
All materials needed are supplied to the kids and those who complete the workshop were given certificate as well. Jehan recollects, “Our previous kids’ drama camps were a definite success.
We had so many messages, phone calls and posts about the workshop from parents who have requested that we continue this more regularly. We are happy to announce that we have more plans for workshops and regular activities for kids in the future.”
