Singer, actor, and Sri Lankan icon Alston Koch is in Colombo to perform for his alma mater Wesley College’s 150th anniversary
celebrations on 11 March at Shangri La, Colombo.
Alston boasts over a dozen international releases on R.C.A (Elvis Presley’s record label) SONY LIfeStyle, Arista Ariola, BMG and EMI records spanning the globe; he was lauded in the international press as ‘Asia’s King of Pop.’ He has three Gold and Platinum Awards together with accolades from Royalty, Presidents and Prime Ministers, politicians, music and sporting legends adorn his walls in Australia.
He carried away ‘The Best Actor’ award for his portrayal of Fr. Matthew Pieris in ‘According To Matthew’ alongside Bollywood star and Sri Lankan actress Jacqui Fernandez in this ground breaking film qualified for selection at the Academy Awards (The Oscars). He was also appointed as Global Ambassador for Sri Lanka Tourism and led the great ‘Climate Change’ effort by Sri Lanka Tourism in 2004 with a beautiful song ‘Can We Take This Climate Change.’
He is also a member of the Grammy Academy and a valued part of the Advocacy for The Recording Academy; it is learned that Alston withdrew for this year’s Academy Awards ‘After Party’ which he has attended and hosted for the past five years.
Alston will perform for the Wesley College function to be held on the same day as the Oscars in Hollywood.
