Sunday, 10 November. It was the Color Run day in Sydney – a day of fun and frolic for both young and old alike. The venue was the Olympic Park where Olympic Games were held in year 2000.

The five-kilometre long run is intended as a way to promote happiness and health. The proceeds from Color Run clothes and other merchandising go to the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

All participants wore white and gathered at the park at 7 a.m. The idea in wearing white is to get the colour pigment that is blasted at them at various points during the race.

“This is sweaty exercise disguised as straight-up fun. With plenty of excitement at the beginning, a party at the end, and four colour zones to dance your way through — plus a bubble zone, a foam zone and a DJ zone — the fun never stops, and neither do your legs,” is how the event was advertised by the organisers.

The origin of the Color Run dates back to March 2011 when it was held in Phoenix, Arizona. Created by Travis Snyder, an event producer, his idea was to encourage professionals and novices to have fun together. He made it a dual-purpose run – collecting donations and running for five kilometres to promote health awareness.

The Color Run now takes place in more than 35 countries worldwide, attracting six million runners across the globe.
