An exhibition titled ‘Figures Assembled II’ by Prageeth Rathnayake is being held at the Paradise Road Galleries, The Gallery Café, 2 Alfred House Road, Colombo 3, from 1 to 21 August. The gallery is open to the public from 10 a.m. until midnight daily. Prageeth Rathnayake applies small squares painted with faces and abstract form to a clean, white canvas constructing his ‘Figures Assembled’ works. In a painting completed over a decade ago, that now hangs in the Paradise Road Private Collection at Tintagel Colombo, the consistency of his textural and linear composition are visible while his current works display an evolution in colour and composition. Deeper tones of rust red, indigo blue and moss green have now replaced the artist’s pastel shades. Drawing influences from Chandraguptha Thenuwara’s ‘Thousand Barrel’ series, tightly placed images form the grid. In this second exhibition of ‘Figures Assembled,’ the artist continues to build a strong understanding of tactile imagery
