‘Flowers do have dreams’ exhibition at Bayleaf

An exhibition of paintings titled ‘Flowers do have dreams’ by Chaminda Gamage and curated by Sadev Wittachy is being held at the newly launched upper level Gallery at The Bayleaf Restaurant at Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.

On until 14 January, the exhibition is open from 12 noon to 10 p.m. daily. 

Chaminda Gamage (b.1970) demonstrated an interest in paintings since childhood. Gamage completed the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting from the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, Faculty of Art and Sculpture, University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka in 2000, Master of Arts in 2004 and Master of Philosophy in 2000 from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He is a widely exhibited artist having held numerous solo exhibitions at the Heritage Gallery, Colombo (1997 and 1998), Freedom February, Lionel Wendt Gallery, Colombo (2000), and at the Barefoot Gallery, Colombo (2011, 2016 and 2023). He is the recipient of numerous awards including the State Award for the Outstanding Painter of the Year, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, and Sri Lanka in 1996. Apart from his solo exhibitions, his work has been featured at several local and international exhibitions. Gamage curated Colombo-Lahore exhibition at Ijaz Gallery, Lahore Pakistan in 2009. He worked as the country coordinator and an artist for Asian art biennale Dhaka Bangladesh in 2010. Gamage is a one of the curators of Colombo Art Biennale in 2011 and he curated a group art exhibition at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo in 2023. Currently Gamage is a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Visual Art at the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo.
