HNB to back Soul Sounds’ global ambitions at World Choir Games 2024

HNB PLC recently announced signing on as a sponsor of Soul Sounds, Sri Lanka’s premier female choir ensemble, for the World Choir Games 2024. 

This renowned event held until 20 July in Auckland, New Zealand will see Soul Sounds representing Sri Lanka on the global stage.

The World Choir Games (WCG), often dubbed the “Olympics of Choral Music”, is not just a competition but a celebration of choral singing that brings together nations and cultures in a harmonious blend of creativity, diversity, friendship, and peace. 

The 13th WCG, to be held in Aotearoa New Zealand, promises to be a vibrant event featuring competitive performances, an Olympic-style parade, grand ceremonies, and enchanting evening concerts.

HNB’s sponsorship of Soul Sounds reaffirms their commitment to fostering creativity and showcasing Sri Lankan art and artists to the world. Through initiatives like carol services and Bhakthi Gees that celebrate Sri Lanka’s rich musical heritage, and sustainability programs such as Gammedda that support grassroots and educational development, HNB continues to play a vital role in promoting the island’s vibrant artistic and cultural landscape.

Soul Sounds, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, has consistently pushed the boundaries of choral music. Under the direction of the accomplished musician Soundarie David Rodrigo, Soul Sounds has earned its place among the world’s distinguished choirs. 

The ensemble made a significant mark in 2004 by securing the first runners-up position in the Youth Choir Category at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales. Since then, Soul Sounds has captivated audiences across the globe, performing in India, China, Australia, Kuwait, Austria, France, the USA, Malaysia, and South Africa.
