Maria Fernanda Garza, the first-ever female Chairperson of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), visited the Lakarcade Flagship showroom at Staple Street, on 19 October 2023, during her official trip to Sri Lanka. Accompanying her were, ICC Sri Lanka Chairman Shanil Fernando and Secretary Hemakumara Gunasekera.
On her arrival, Garza was warmly welcomed by the Lakarcade Managing Director/CEO Anil Koswatte. The ICC that represents 170 countries with a corporate membership of 45 million companies, is the largest and most influential global organisation. It is the only chamber to have representation in the United Nations, World Trade Organisation (WTO), and World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
As a strong advocate for business ethics and corporate governance, Garza’s commitment to promoting international commerce, supporting smaller enterprises, and developing local skills and capacity aligns perfectly with Lakarcade’s mission.
Koswatte said Lakarcade aims to empower Sri Lankan craft entrepreneurs’ clusters and their families in order to create a sustainable enterprise.
